I understand it has improved but, I believe REX uses the global weather technique to smooth the winds, so again METARS are meaningless at destination and Alternate.ДЇinally, the developers of Opus are extremely proactive. I tried it a few times, but found it clunky to use and produced dreadful windshifts. Rex introduced a weather engine some years ago. I have REX for the Textures, which I think are good. Changes to AS over the years have been fairly small IMHO, lots of name changes and different GUIs but really what changed? OPUS has come along and give AS a kick up the behind. I knew it was going wrong when the development of textures seemed to become more of a focus then improving the weather engine. I personally believe Opus is leaps and bounds ahead of Active Sky, which pains me as I have spent a lot of money on AS over the years. I know Active Sky does not support specific airport wind conditions.

It looked good though!ДЄlso, the approach plates for Bristol it says - Windshear, Turbulence may occur RWY 09 when strong SE wind. Without the global weather, in my case, the weather in Active Sky was erratic, wind shifts being the biggest problem. Planning for a approach and landing is unrealistic. So, weather briefs become meaningless at the destination. With Active Sky, unless the global smoothing is turned off, the weather is the same the world over. Upon arrival at Bristol the visibility had dropped, greater cloud cover and it was raining. With OPUS (I believe also FSGW but I don't use it so best check for yourself) the weather changes en-route. Not vastly different, but this proves the point I'm going to make very well.
